Right now, Utah is at the center of a raging storm after the local government green-lit one of the world’s largest data centers over the furious objections of thousands of local residents.
This behemoth project – backed by Shark Tank venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary, known as “Mr. Wonderful” – will span more than twice the size of Manhattan, guzzling up enough water and power to imperil the Great Salt Lake and threaten drinking water for nearby communities.
It’s not just Utah. Community after community – red states and blue – are fighting back against mega data centers that send utility bills soaring and drain precious water from already stressed rivers and lakes. And Bernie is again showing what leadership looks like, demanding Congress pass a nationwide moratorium on new mega data centers.

This is about ultra-wealthy investors destroying our communities for their own profits, while our neighborhoods, environment, and wallets pay the price.
Nobody wants these gigantic data centers – and one community after the next is saying NO. Through local grassroots pushback, a small city in Wisconsin was able to pass the nation’s first-ever anti-data center referendum by a 2-to-1 landslide, despite pro-corporate propaganda covering the airwaves.
It’s time for a people-powered national revolt. Which is why Our Revolution is recruiting our 100,000-strong Citizen Action Team to bring relentless outside pressure: calling, organizing, and showing up to stand up for community needs. And while we organize locally, we ALSO need to be backing Bernie’s call for a pause on the construction of new facilities until Congress passes regulations to protect our communities.
